Welcome to Te Kura o Motupōhue - Bluff School located in the port town of Bluff at the beginning of State Highway One.
Tū mai Motupōhue, he toka tū moana!
Stand tall and steadfast like Motupōhue against the raging sea. Our tamariki see themselves standing tall and proud like Motupōhue and more resilient to handle situations.
We show this by upholding our 4 school values:
Tino Rangatiratanga - Self Determination
Manaakitanga - Caring
Kaitiakitanga - Protecting our space
Ngakau Aroha - Empathy
We are a full primary school catering to Year 0 - 8 with a rich and authentic localised curriculum.
Bluff School aims to give a range of experiences for ākonga from exciting classroom programmes and involving our community to staying overnight or many nights in a variety of settings relevant to our learning.
Nau mai haere mai ki Te Kura o Motupōhue, we warmly welcome all visitors to our school.
Ngā mihi

Tumuaki - Principal
Nau Mai, Haere Mai, Welcome to Bluff School.
We are a school that overlooks a stunning harbour situated in the heart of Bluff Motupōhue, a north facing port and fishing town like no other. Home to the famous Bluff Oyster, and part of Murihiku, Southland.
Our school is over 150 years old, having been established in 1867.
We are a full primary catering for new entrants to Year 8.
Our current roll is 130 students and we are a full primary school from Years 1-8, U3.
At present we have 6 classrooms at Bluff School, with 6 teaching staff in 2025.
Our Principal is full release and we have a teaching Deputy Principal. We have a fantastic staff at the school and a very supportive board.
Our ERO partnership has almost completed phase one and with a new ERO partner we can complete phase 1 and move forward with our evaluation/action plan in phase 2.
Our previous ERO reports are available on the ERO website and were very favourable.
