Our Literacy curriculum links Reading, Writing, Oral and Visual Language. Teachers work with small groups to cater for the needs of all learners.
Our Writing is based around practical experiences, hands on examples or identified individual needs. Literacy is taught five days a week. Reading is based around decoding and comprehension of texts through a guided reading approach.
Mathematics is taught daily and Numeracy is linked with Strand teaching. The children also work on basic knowledge in Maths. The focus in Maths links to catering for the individual learning needs in the classroom through small group teaching.
Our Science curriculum is taught by a specialist teacher and is based on the four strands of Science (Living World, Physical World, Material World and Planet Earth and Beyond). Where possible we use local contexts and resources to drive the learning for this.
The other curriculum areas are covered by the classroom teachers and are taught through an integrated approach based on local contexts.
Kapa Haka and Te Reo Māori are incredibly important to us and our whole school participates in our learning of this.
